FAQs

Q?

Do I need an appointment for an estimate? How long will it take? Is there a cost?

A.

Our estimates are free, and we prefer you call ahead. Estimates take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete, depending upon the extent of the damage. You may drop in for an estimate anytime during our hours of operation however, we cannot guarantee immediate assistance. We will do our best to accommodate our walk-in customers.

Q?

How long will it take to repair my car?

A.

Because each situation is different, there is no standard time period necessary to make repairs. The length of time is dependent on the extent of the damage, the availability of parts, and if applicable, your insurance adjuster’s timeliness. However, we do everything we can to keep your repair time as short as possible.

Q?

How difficult is it to match my paint color?

A.

The following is a brief description of how paint matching works.

Your vehicle carries a paint code, printed on a label frequently located under the hood of your car. This code specifically identifies your car’s color and is used by the repair shop to determine which paint-mixing formula should be used. This works fine if your vehicle is precisely the color specified by the paint code. However, in the actual vehicle production, there are often slight variations.

If your vehicle is not the exact color specified by the factory, the first step in paint matching is “tinting” or varying the amount of the components in the formula. Sometimes, a perfect match cannot be obtained by tinting alone. In these cases, blending techniques are used. The last little bit of variance is made invisible by painting portions of the vehicle adjacent to the repaired areas so that the color changes are unnoticeable. This can make the difference between a very good match and an invisible repair.

Proper paint-matching techniques require a high level of skill and sometimes a great deal of patience. At Black Lake Collision Center, all our technicians are certified by our paint manufacturer to use their computerized paint matching system. Be sure you select a repair facility that will take the time to produce a match in the perfect range and will not be satisfied with merely good results.

Q?

Can you save me my deductible?

A.

An honest repair shop will always say no. Your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance carrier. It states that if you are involved in a collision, you are responsible for the first portion of the repairs (your deductible) and any depreciation or betterment on mechanical parts. The insurance company will pay the rest.

If we do fewer repairs than agreed to with the insurance company, you are still responsible for the initial amount – your deductible.

Q?

Can I take my vehicle where I want to have it repaired?

A.

Yes. As the owner of the vehicle you have the right to chose where your vehicle is repaired. Most insurance companies have shops they work with on a regular basis and receive a discounted rate. You do not have to agree to work with the shop the insurance company recommends even if the insurance company says it will cost you extra if you take the vehicle somewhere else. We guarantee there will be no additional charge to you as we work with all major insurance companies.

Q?

Do I have to get more than one estimate?

A.

No. There is no law in the state of Washington that says you have to get more than one estimate. If an insurance company asks you to get more than one, explain to them that you would prefer to only work with Black Lake Collision Center. If they still need more than one estimate, they can have one of their own appraisers take a look at your vehicle. All this should be done at your convenience and choice of location either your work, home or at our shop.

If the insurance company gives you an estimate, we will repair your vehicle according to their approved estimate and contact them directly if any additional supplements are needed during the course of repair.

Q?

Are rental cars available?

A.

Yes. We work with many of the major rental car companies. We can either make the arrangements for you or assist you in the process. For your convenience, the rental car company will meet you at Black Lake Collision when you drop your vehicle off for repair and will pick the rental car back up from our shop when the repair is completed.

A.

Q?

What if my car is deemed a total loss?
